My current body of work establishes relationships between formal color elements in traditional mediums, and color as it is found in its natural state of production by the human body. I utilize unconventional materials, (agar plates with bacterial growth) and simple, repeated geometric forms. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between natural/manufactured color; I juxtapose the arrangement and scale of the encapsulated forms, and want viewers to get physically closer to a piece to understand its materiality. I am heavily influenced by the contemporary bioart works of Anika Yi, the employment of color by Mark Rothko and Yayoi Kusama, and the minimalistic practices of Carmen Herrara, and Ann Truitt.

Bacteria is, in and of itself, in a minimal state due to its single cell structure. Through amplifying the single coloration of the cells by displaying them next to, or on their original colors, or in combination with contrasting colors, an exploration into what we, as humans, are able to produce on a cellular level is launched. I vary the sizing of the work, and manipulate the essential, recognizable, agar plate, often with touches of humor through the use of titling, and that these pieces are primarily decorative objects.
